Holy Macklin!
San Jose's teenage phenom is the real deal and then some - and hockey is back in San Jose - which is awesome.
I don’t know what it’s like in your house, but in Ralph e boy’s living room now, we’re ramping up for the Stanley Cup playoffs, which means, more hockey watching nightly.
I don’t watch like I used to - like I had to and wanted to for work and life - but this time of year I get that itch - hockey playoffs man - the best time of year. And I gotta get up to speed.
So I’m turning the channels and I run into Ducks/Sharks. It’s late in the second period. I got my burgers off the grill and I sit down to watch with dinner. The first thing I notice is the crowd - the energy - the life in that barn again. I like the Duckies new unis - or colors - or - whatever it was they had on last night.
TNT had the game and one of their top announce crews with John Forslund and Eddie O and Shayne Hnidy - and that gave it a little jam too. Biz, Bouch, Ace and Liam in studio.
A year or so ago - this game would not have made anyone’s radar. But it sure as hell does now.
Why? Well yeah - the teams are competitive - but - the kid - wow. I haven’t really watched him like this. The Sharks are racing toward one of the last playoff spots, and last night was a game they kinda had to have - as they kinda have to have all of em right now.
And down by a goal, very late in the game, to their in-state and divisional rival, in a raucous arena, 19 year-old Macklin Celebrini took over and pushed his young team (or “group” as they like to say…) past Anaheim for the win.
It was - amazing - and - amazing to see hockey back in one of the best venues in the game.
