There's always a Guy...

Don't kid yourselves-Patrick Dumont is calling the shots. He's the one kicking his own fans and customers out of the AAC for chanting and booing. And he's the one who's about to lose the most.

Mavs Owner, Governor & Representative Patrick Dumont - you can’t coach stupid - you got it or you don’t - and this guy has it in spades.

There’s a famous story involves Matt Damon, Damon’s father, and the legendary producer and deal maker Jerry Weintraub, having lunch after a day on the golf course.

Matt Damon’s father turns to Matt and says - “you ever regret not finishing your degree at Harvard?”

Damon replies - “sometimes - sure.”

Weintraub jumps in - “You want a degree from Harvard, Matt?”

Damon says - “What do you mean?”

To which Weintraub, with his trademark wry grin, replies - “There’s always a Guy…”

The late, great Jerry Wientraub took Elvis on tour, repped Led Zeppelin, and produced all the “Oceans 11” films.

I’ve been lucky, my father was a big mover and shaker, and my career exposed me to big things and people. All my life, for better and worse, I’ve known and lived this mantra - There’s always a Guy…

My Uncle Jimmy, the best salesmen I ever knew, told me something when I was little and it’s never left me.

The deal’s never the deal - the deal’s the guy. If the guy is good - then do it. If the guy isn’t good - no deal in the world is worth it.

To the Dallas Mavericks and their fans: This ain’t the guy.

Miriam - this ain’t the guy. He’s killing you here. If he hasn’t already, in just under a week, tanked any shot you had at getting gambling legalized in Texas, which is your primary business and, if I may be so bold, the reason you bought the team in the first place. Every minute he’s there at the front risks exactly that outcome. You stand to lose billions.

Miriam - let me help you here. I mean it. Because you need help. Someone like you always has big decisions to make - this ain’t one of em. Dump this guy now before he takes you down with him,

My father - you would have liked him - a stud corporate litigator. Pragmatic as hell. Unemotional about business. He used to say - "Your first loss, is your least loss”. Write the check. Get him out of there. Move on with the business of rebuilding trust with your fan base. Because this is gonna take some time now, after the kid blew it up.

Patrick Dumont, so dull and dim, didn’t even know he was the guy getting booed as he cluelessly hulked across the floor in front of real fans? This is the guy you want fronting this? The great Sheldon Adelson, someone I’ve watched and admired from a far - I don’t believe would like any of this. I read where it says his mantra for business success is “make the right decisions at the right time.” But you would know better than I would.

“When you put a clown in a palace, the clown doesn’t become a king, the palace becomes a circus.”

Patrick Dumont, has hobbled your efforts here. Maybe irreparably, but we can try you and me. I’m in it my whole life sports. Sports gambling. These are my jams. I know the hundreds of billions, maybe trillions when it all gets added up, that this deal could mean to you.

And you got this moron fronting it? Seriously? It’s laughable.

LET. ME. HELP.

Here’s my post from last night. Think about this as you’re drafting the separation agreement with him. He’s doing something unheard of in sports. He’s telling your customers to go fuck themselves.

This how you want it? I got more likes than followers on this one. But I’m picking up steam. You’re in free fall.

The authoritarian regime once known as The Dallas Mavericks is headed by a dipshit who’s potentially costing his bosses billions of dollars.

I thought about talking to you Patrick. Pat… whatever…. but you’ve shown yourself to be a coward, a snowflake, someone so scared of facing his own fan base that you hide behind minimum wage employees, and selected staff and media.

You’ve also shown yourself to be intellectually challenged as you act against your own self-interest in ways I never even thought were possible. You shit on the NBA, the Mavericks, the City, the State, your fans, and now - potentially - your shot at legalized gaming in Texas, and you bounce around like everything’s cool.

You’re not welcome here anymore. Time for you to do something else. Go away. Nobody wants you here. You’re not one of us. You’re not a Mavericks fan. You can stop reading now. I’m talking to Miriam here. And I’m gonna lay it out even harder for her in a letter.

Miriam - let’s go.
